The Interview

How did you get into singing?
Its always been a dream to become a singer for as long as I remember and I figured I was the only one who could do something about it so I moved to London when I left school to pursue it.

So what did you do in London?  I went to lots and lots of auditions for boybands etc and eventually took a job in a Westlife Tribute act.

When was the idea of being Robbie born?  I was taking a year off from everything and went travelling, it was in Australia where I entered a local Karaoke competition singing 'Better Man'  and won, and from that point my new name amongst everyone was 'Robbie'

Where did the name Rob Idol come from?  When I was working on setting up the show, Pop Idol had just finished and was very popular and Robbie is my Idol but prefers to be known as Rob so I put it all together and hey presto!

Where and when was your first outing as ROB IDOL?  I set the show up while I was living in Tenerife, It was due to be on my 21st birthday but I was poorly so I made it exactly one week after on 26 May 2003 in Laguna Park 2 Hotel in Tenerife.

Where have you been working since then?  I did the summer and winter in Tenerife on the caberet circuit then left and have since worked in the UK, The Baleric Islands, Canary Islands and even Brazil!!

So lets talk about the show itself now, what can we expect from it? Mmmmmmmm Theres a question, lots of Cheeky Robbie humour, high energy, all the classic Robbie songs from his early stuff, swing to his latest album and even songs that havn't been released from his albums.  My show has it all!!

Do you plan to travel more with the show in the future?  Yeah, I want to work in every country where Robbie has conquered! Especially want to work in the Middle east, and a tour in Australia would be nice! So agents take note!

Whats been your favourite or most memorable show so far?  I guess my most memorable gig will always be my first one as it was a big starting point and very special moment in my history, as for favourites, Every time I step on stage is my favourite as its my job but its also my passion and what I live for, but I love giving some back as well, so when ever I get the chance to do charity work I always do it, I did a big charity gig in my local hometown which was broadcast live on the radio and was held at the local theatre where I used to sing in the school choir, it was also the first time my parents came to see my show so it was in all very special for me!

Whats the strangest thing that's happened to you at a gig?   I had a pair of knickers thrown at me on stage, its happens now and again but not a pair of mans briefs which were the size of a parachute!
